August 18/19, First Day of Class
Welcome to the first week of World History!
Because of the craziness of the first week, we will use this time to get to know each other and establish the rules and procedures of the classroom.
First-order of business:
Checking in and introductions. Since I cannot have formal introduction in person we will do them on Schoology instead! Here are the steps:
Go to lms.lausd.net
Sign in with your LAUSD account information
Find our class in your “Courses sections”. Make sure you are looking for the right period.
Click on the assignment, “Introduction Post” and follow the instructions by answering the four questions below:
How do you feel about being here (in virtual class) right now?
Even though we were all quarantined this summer, did you do anything fun or learn a new hobby?
What is one thing you wish to accomplish this year? (Can be academic or personal)
Second-order of business:
I need you all to download the syllabus which can be found by clicking —> here. We will be going over and discussing important parts of the syllabus together.
Third-order of business:
Those of you who were at ArTES last year already know about Mastery-Based Grading, however, some of you are new and others might need a refresher! So here is a handout that explains how exactly you will be graded on assignments, per learning target, and your overall grade in the class.
Explanation of Master Based Grading
How to Calculate your assignment/learning target/and course grade
The link above will help you understand what your grade on an assignment or over all learning target means. It will also help you calculate your overall grade for the class.
Social Studies Learning Target Checklists/Rubrics
These checklists/rubrics are meant to help you achieve on proficiency on any assignment regardless of the learning target. To use this you must:
First figure out what learning target/s the assignment is hitting
Then read the checklist for that learning target to see what you need to do to earn an score of proficient or mastery for that learning target.
